Glad I took the leap of faith on these...

I purchased two of these for my home office before there was a single review for the item (an unusual state for a product on Amazon) so I had some concern over the quality since it was an unknown... I'm happy to say that my reservations were quickly eased as I opened the cartons and saw the finish quality on the wood, the clear markings for the pieces, and the neatly divided hardware pack. Both units I purchased were flawless and were shipped from warehouses on opposite sides of the country, so I'm quite certain it's an accurate sampling of the product from different production lots. This was confirmed by the sole difference I discovered between the two units... One of the two units has the back piece of the base unfinished wood, while the second unit has the cappuccino laminate on the back as well presenting a finished appearance from all sides. Assembly was straightforward and the directions were clear. The only gripe I have is that they included stickers to cover the screw holes instead of plugs which I feel would present a far more attractive appearance. This isn't something that warranted a reduction of the overall rating however as I have a $3,500 studio desk from a US manufacturer that also used the same sticker method for concealing screw holes. I'm very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish, sturdy, and eye catching bookcase.

Perfect...

The item came in perfect condition. It does take a minute to put together but if you are a patient person and read the instructions it is not difficult. I love it. I searched awhile to find the perfect shelf and this was it. Very unique and everything I expected.

Great Stylish Bookcase, Reasonably Priced! - Buy if you like furniture assembly

After looking at multiple furniture stores, I chose to give this bookshelf a try due to its low cost and modern design. After assembly, I know I made a great decision as it looks as good as the $1,400 Crate and Barrel units for way less cost, and most of the negatives are just assembly hassles and not design flaws.

Pros:
Solid construction, holding 20 heavy textbooks on one shelf - yet lightweight
Good size for storage and display areas, large but not massive
Very nice looking design and wood veneer - even screw hole cover stickers have a 3D wood grain
Easy assembly, good organization (each hardware type had its own pocket arranged alphabetically in a long strip)

Cons:
Front middle vertical support is somewhat awkward, hides the shelf middles
Plasticy fibers covered all the wood pieces in shipping, annoying to clean up
Long assembly (flat pack like Ikea), not all wood sections were labelled, not all drilled holes were cleaned out
Some small blemishes on the wood sections, barely noticeable

I have now arranged what used to fit on a smaller bookcase on three of the lower shelves, leaving the two top shelves for displaying pictures and other curios. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for stylish storage and display at a reasonable price, that is willing to spend the time for assembly.
